Creating Community One Delectable Bite at a time, Candice & Sue are the Honeys in the Hive.

Sue and Candice moved to Sue’s childhood home in Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, with the dream of opening up some sort of fabulous shop. When the old building came up for sale that once housed Carl Beal’s Grocery from 1948 to 1984 and later the heydays of the Winemakers Tavern from 2015 to time of sale, with rolling pins in hand Sue and Candice turned the dream to reality.

Welcome, everyone, to The Bees Knees General Store & Bakery, where there’s always a seat at the table.

With a 50+ years of experience together in food service and hospitality, Sue and Candice are passionate local food supporters and committed creators in the kitchen. Candice’s nose-to-tail butchery expertise is a good match for local, small suppliers where care is taken to raise animals sustainably, and Sue’s dedication to community-based food security solutions, are a perfect match to set up shop in the heart of the Annapolis Valley. The Bees Knees is their vision of a yummy, warm, welcoming, space for all to gather, meet, share, play, learn, listen, knit, sing - while enjoying delicious food and beverages.

The Bees Knees, sweet as honey sticks to you in all the right ways. It’s a passion project, where the buzz is all about the abundance of our region, and gratitude resides in the hive, for each and every one of us, all the creatures, great and small.
